In ascending order, the notes will be played from this C:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/hearandplay.cc\/dynamic_image\/pianokeys.php?notes=,,C,&amp;color=CC6699&amp;size=2\" border=\"0\"><br \/>\n\u2026to this C (aka \u2013 \u201can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hearandplay.com\/main\/4-dimensions-of-octave\">octave<\/a>\u201d):<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/hearandplay.cc\/dynamic_image\/pianokeys.php?notes=,,,C&amp;color=CC6699&amp;size=2\" border=\"0\"><br \/>\nIn descending order, the notes will be played from this C:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/hearandplay.cc\/dynamic_image\/pianokeys.php?notes=,,,C&amp;color=CC6699&amp;size=2\" border=\"0\"><br \/>\n\u2026to this C:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/hearandplay.cc\/dynamic_image\/pianokeys.php?notes=,,C,&amp;color=CC6699&amp;size=2\" border=\"0\"><br \/>\n\u2026its lower octave.<\/p>\n<p>No notes are <em>omitted<\/em> or <em>repeated<\/em>, irrespective of the direction \u2013 <em>ascending<\/em> or <em>descending<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Formula<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Beyond the arrangement of the notes alphabetically in ascending or descending order, one thing that is noteworthy is the distance between the notes.<\/p>\n<p>In between most tones of the C major scale, are whole steps.<\/p>\n<p>C-D:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/hearandplay.cc\/dynamic_image\/pianokeys.php?notes=,,C,D,&amp;color=CC6699&amp;size=2\" border=\"0\"><br \/>\n\u2026is a whole step because it encompasses two half steps:<\/p>\n<p>C-Db (the first half step):<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/hearandplay.cc\/dynamic_image\/pianokeys.php?notes=,,C,Db,&amp;color=CC6699&amp;size=2\" border=\"0\"><br \/>\n\u2026and Db-D (the second half step):<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/hearandplay.cc\/dynamic_image\/pianokeys.php?notes=,,Db,D,&amp;color=CC6699&amp;size=2\" border=\"0\"><br \/>\nThere are only two occurrences of the half step (aka \u2013 \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hearandplay.com\/main\/introduction-melodic-progressions-semitone-wholetone-redefined\">semitone progression<\/a>\u201d) in the major scale.<\/p>\n<p>One half step between E and F:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/hearandplay.cc\/dynamic_image\/pianokeys.php?notes=,,E,F,&amp;color=CC6699&amp;size=2\" border=\"0\"><br \/>\n\u2026and another half step in between B and C:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/hearandplay.cc\/dynamic_image\/pianokeys.php?notes=,,B,C&amp;color=CC6699&amp;size=2\" border=\"0\"><br \/>\nE and F are the <b>third<\/b> and fourth degrees of the major scale while B and C are the <b>seventh<\/b> and eighth (aka \u2013 \u201cthe first\u201d) degrees of the major scale.<\/p>\n<p>The distances between scale tones can be formularized with <strong>W<\/strong> and <strong>H<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>W<\/strong> represents whole steps while <strong>H<\/strong> represents half steps.<\/p>\n<table border=\"1\" cellpadding=\"0\" we have a formula, let me give you (or remind you of) an easy way to recall the distances between the tones of the major scale.<\/p>\n<h3><b><i>\u201cW<\/i><\/b><i>hy<b> W<\/b>on\u2019t<b> H<\/b>e<b> W<\/b>ear <b>W<\/b>hite<b> W<\/b>hen<b> H<\/b>ot?<b>\u201d<\/b><\/i><\/h3>\n<p>It may take sometime before you you&#8217;ll master the <strong>W W H W W W H<\/strong> formula.<\/p>\n<p>But using this mnemonic <i>\u201cWhy Won\u2019t He Wear White When Hot\u201d<\/i>, the formula will only get more memorable and easy to apply. That course not only gave me more insight on progressions, but also inspired what I&#8217;m about to share with you.<\/p>\n<p>A few days back, I asked him to <em>&#8220;tell me more about Charles Barkley.&#8221;<\/em> He smiled and replied <em>&#8220;Charles Barkley? He&#8217;s a past NBA player, lol, who wore the number 34.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>(I&#8217;m busted now. Lol!)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Let me tell you exactly what I was told about Charles Barkley&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Point #1&#8230;..He&#8217;s a past NBA player.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Point #2&#8230;.He wore the number 34.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Our main interest in this post is in point #2 &#8211; &#8220;He wore number 34.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>&#8220;How Can &#8217;34&#8217; Help Me Play 50% of All Major Scales?&#8221;<\/h2>\n<p>Here&#8217;s some simple arithmetic for you:<\/p>\n<p>3 + 4 = _______?<\/p>\n<p><strong>The answer is 7.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The answer to this arithmetic represents the number of notes in the major scale, while the arithmetic, itself, is the fingering guide to the way notes should be played.<\/p>\n<p>There are seven notes in the major scale and five digits on the hand.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not possible to play each note of the major scale with different digits. That would have only been possible if our creator gave us seven fingers.<\/p>\n<p>To play seven notes with five digits, you&#8217;ll have to break things up. Here are some ideas:<\/p>\n<p><strong>2 + 5 = 7.<\/strong> Using this method, the first two notes are played, followed by the last five notes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3 + 4 = 7. <\/strong>This has to do with playing the first three notes and then the last four notes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4 + 3 = 7. <\/strong>This is simply playing the first four notes before the last three notes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5 + 2 = 7. <\/strong>For this one, you&#8217;ll play the first five notes, followed by the last two notes.<\/p>\n<p>All of these combinations help us play seven notes with five digits.<\/p>\n<p>Between the four of them, the most practical one is:<\/p>\n<p><strong>3 + 4 = 7<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8230;that which takes us back to Charles Barkley&#8217;s Jersey &#8211; <strong>34.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are 12 major scales on the piano and 50% of them is 6. You can play these 6 major scales if you remember the number Charles Barkley wore &#8211; 34.<\/p>\n<h3>Fingering for 6 Major Scales<\/h3>\n<p>For six major scales on the piano, in the keys of C, D, E, G, A and B, the most convenient fingering is:<\/p>\n<p>1.2.<strong>3<\/strong> | 1.2.3.<strong>4<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1.2.3 represents the thumb, index and middle finger (a set of 3 digits).<\/p>\n<p>1.2.3.4 represents the thumb, index, middle and ring fingers (a set of 4 digits).<\/p>\n<p>This means a set of three digits, followed by a set of four digits.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img
