There are so many perspectives to the term diatonic; but in this lesson, we’ll be focusing on the the modal perspective.<\/p>\n

There are twelve musical notes:

\nSeven white notes:
\n
\n…are considered as naturals, while five black notes:
\n
\n…are considered as\u00a0 accidentals.<\/p>\nThe seven naturals were named using the first seven letters of the alphabet:<\/p>\n
A, B, C, D, E, F & G<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
…while the five accidentals are considered as variants of the naturals.<\/p>\n
Ab, Bb, C#, D#, Eb, F# and Gb<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Whenever the term diatonic is used, it refers to the relationship between the naturals,<\/em> having any of these seven alphabets:<\/p>\n
