However, if you&#8217;re neither a gospel nor a jazz pianist, it&#8217;s also important you learn about the chords that can be formed using the lydian dominant scale.<\/p>\n<p>In a previous lesson, we started out by learning <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hearandplay.com\/main\/else-wants-learn-lydian-dominant-scale\">the definition and formation of the lydian dominant scale<\/a> in all twelve notes on the keyboard.<\/p>\n<p>Today, we&#8217;re taking it a step further by exploring the triadic, seventh, and extended chords that can be formed using the lydian dominant scale.<\/p>\n<h2>A Quick Review Of The Lydian Dominant Scale<\/h2>\n<h3>Preliminaries<\/h3>\n<p>Due to the fact that the lydian dominant scale is one of the modes of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hearandplay.com\/main\/the-melodic-minor-scale\">melodic minor scale<\/a>, it would be appropriate for us to highlight the melodic minor scale before we proceed.<\/p>\n<p>The melodic minor scale is one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hearandplay.com\/main\/these-are-traditional-scales-learn-how-to-play-them\">traditional scales<\/a> that every piano player must reckon with. Using the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hearandplay.com\/main\/the-natural-minor-scale\">natural minor scale<\/a> anyone can form the melodic minor scale by raising its sixth and seventh tones.<\/p>\n<p>Raising the sixth and seventh tones of the C natural minor scale :<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/hearandplay.cc\/dynamic_image\/pianokeys.php?notes=,,C,D,Eb,F,G,Ab,Bb,C&amp;color=00CCCC&amp;size=2\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\n&#8230;(which are Ab and Bb):<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/hearandplay.cc\/dynamic_image\/pianokeys.php?notes=,,Ab,Bb,&amp;color=00CCCC&amp;size=2\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\n&#8230;by a half step (to A and B):<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/hearandplay.cc\/dynamic_image\/pianokeys.php?notes=,,A,B,&amp;color=00CCCC&amp;size=2\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\n&#8230;produces the C melodic minor scale:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/hearandplay.cc\/dynamic_image\/pianokeys.php?notes=,,C,D,Eb,F,G,A,B,C&amp;color=00CCCC&amp;size=2\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\nNow that we have an idea of what the melodic minor scale is, it&#8217;s easier to describe the lydian dominant scale.<\/p>\n<h3><em>&#8220;What Is A Lydian Dominant Scale?&#8221;<\/em><\/h3>\n<blockquote><p>The lydian dominant scale is the fourth mode of the melodic minor scale.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Starting and ending the melodic minor scale on its fourth tone produces the lydian dominant scale.
