As I learned more about chord theory, I found out that these terms are basically\u00a0<em>chord extensions<\/em> and are relevant to the study of and formation of extended chords.<\/p>\n<p>Today, we&#8217;ll be learning how these chord extensions can be mastered in every key, but before we do so, let&#8217;s discuss briefly on extended chords.<\/p>\n<h2>A Short Note On Extended Chords<\/h2>\n<p>A chord can be classified as an extended chord if its width exceeds the compass of an octave.<\/p>\n<p>Using the note C (as a reference):<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/hearandplay.cc\/dynamic_image\/pianokeys.php?notes=,,C,,&amp;color=6633FF&amp;size=2\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\nWe&#8217;ll have C to C:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/hearandplay.cc\/dynamic_image\/pianokeys.php?notes=,,C,C,&amp;color=6633FF&amp;size=2\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\n&#8230;as an octave.<\/p>\n<p>All chords with this C note (as their root):<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/hearandplay.cc\/dynamic_image\/pianokeys.php?notes=,,C,,&amp;color=6633FF&amp;size=2\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\n&#8230;that exceed the compass of its octave (C to C):<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/hearandplay.cc\/dynamic_image\/pianokeys.php?notes=,,C,C,&amp;color=6633FF&amp;size=2\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\n&#8230;are classified as extended chords because their width are literally extending beyond the compass of an octave.<\/p>\n<p>Due to the fact that he term octave is associated with the number <em>eight<\/em>, we&#8217;ll classify chords that are described using bigger quantities (like ninths, elevenths, and thirteenths) as extended chords.<\/p>\n<h2><em>&#8220;What Are Chord Extensions?&#8221;<\/em><\/h2>\n<p>Chord extensions are chord tones that their interval from the root of the chord exceed the compass of an octave.
