While it&#8217;s good to learn and master the major scale, there&#8217;s also need to learn the natural minor scale.<\/p>\n<p>In the process of learning to play natural minor scale, so many musicians have given up and dismissed it as a difficult scale to learn.<\/p>\n<p>But we&#8217;ll be learning the formula of the natural minor scale and using this <em>intervallic <\/em>formula, I guarantee that you can play the natural minor scale starting from any of the 12 notes on the keyboard.<\/p>\n<h2>A Short Note On The Natural Minor Scale<\/h2>\n<p>The natural minor scale is <em>principally <\/em>the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hearandplay.com\/main\/these-are-traditional-scales-learn-how-to-play-them\">traditional scale<\/a> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hearandplay.com\/main\/musicians-mean-say-minor-key\">minor key<\/a>. So, to better our understanding of the minor natural scale, we need to fall back to the minor key.<\/p>\n<h3>A Background On The Minor Key<\/h3>\n<p>What we call <em>key <\/em>in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hearandplay.com\/main\/ask-dr-pokey-what-is-tonal-music\">tonal music<\/a> is an environment created by the establishment of a particular note as the key center.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Attention:<\/strong> The key environment is established by eight tones.<\/p>\n<p>There are two key types: the major key and the minor key. An outline of the notes in a key in a <em>step-wise<\/em> manner in ascending and descending order produces the traditional key of that particular key.<\/p>\n<p>For example, an outline of all the notes in the minor key in a step-wise manner in ascending and descending order produces the natural minor scale &#8212; which is the traditional scale of the minor key.<\/p>\n<h3>The Easiest Natural Minor Scale On The Keyboard<\/h3>\n<p>For a lot of people and for a variety of (theoretical, mathematical, and logical) reasons, the easiest natural minor scale on the keyboard is the A natural minor scale and that is NOT to say that others are difficult.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;So, How Do I Play The A Minor Scale?&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>If you can outline all the white notes on the keyboard from A to A:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/hearandplay.cc\/dynamic_image\/pianokeys.php?notes=,,A,A,&amp;color=6666FF&amp;size=2\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\n&#8230;and I&#8217;m talking about every single white note &#8212; A, B, C, D, E, F, G, and A:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/hearandplay.cc\/dynamic_image\/pianokeys.php?notes=,,A,B,C,D,E,F,G,A,&amp;color=6666FF&amp;size=2\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\n&#8230;that&#8217;s the A natural minor scale and it contains all the notes in the key of A minor.<\/p>\n<h2>The Formula Of The Natural Minor Scale<\/h2>\n<p>Playing the easiest natural minor scale on the keyboard is good. But beyond that, there&#8217;s need to learn how to transpose the natural minor scale from one note to another on the keyboard.<\/p>\n<p>Once you master the transposition of the natural minor scale, you can play any of these minor scales:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The F# natural minor scale:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/hearandplay.cc\/dynamic_image\/pianokeys.php?notes=,,Fs,Gs,A,B,Cs,D,E,Fs,&amp;color=6666FF&amp;size=2\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\nThe Eb natural minor scale:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/hearandplay.cc\/dynamic_image\/pianokeys.php?notes=,,Eb,F,Gb,Ab,Bb,Cb,Db,Eb,&amp;color=6666FF&amp;size=2\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\nThe C natural minor scale:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/hearandplay.cc\/dynamic_image\/pianokeys.php?notes=,,C,D,Eb,F,G,Ab,Bb,C,&amp;color=6666FF&amp;size=2\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8230;and every other minor scale on the keyboard.<\/p>\n<h3>The Transposition Of The Natural Minor Scale<\/h3>\n<p>The concept of transposition has to do with the <strong>TRANS<\/strong>fer of <strong>POSITION<\/strong>. Playing anything on every key on the keyboard requires the knowledge of transposition and the natural minor scale is not an exception.<\/p>\n<p>But before we go ahead with the transposition of the natural minor scale, we&#8217;ll have to invest sometime in breaking down the scale and understanding the distance between its successive tones.<\/p>\n<p>With the knowledge of the distance between the successive tones of the natural minor scale, we can create an intervallic formula for its transposition.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Alright! Let&#8217;s Go Ahead And Breakdown The Natural Minor Scale&#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Permit me to use the easiest minor scale &#8212; the A natural minor scale:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" have:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>W H W W H W W<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8230;and it even gets better when you <em>Jermainize <\/em>it to become:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>W<\/strong>hen <strong>H<\/strong>ot <strong>W<\/strong>hy <strong>W<\/strong>on&#8217;t <strong>H<\/strong>e <strong>W<\/strong>ear <strong>W<\/strong>hite<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Attention:<\/strong> To <em>Jermainize<\/em> means <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><em>to simplify<\/em> <em>in an interesting and comprehensive manner<\/em><\/span> and that&#8217;s a new word I just coined.<\/p>\n<p>So, if you can remember &#8220;<strong>W<\/strong>hen <strong>H<\/strong>ot <strong>W<\/strong>hy <strong>W<\/strong>on&#8217;t <strong>H<\/strong>e <strong>W<\/strong>ear <strong>W<\/strong>hite&#8221;, you can transpose the natural minor scale to any key.<\/p>\n<h2>Final Words<\/h2>\n<p>We&#8217;re just getting started with the minor scale in this lesson and in
